Buildings across Rabat have been transformed into towering works of art during the 11th JIDAR Rabat Street Art Festival, as artists from around the world turn the city into a vibrant open-air gallery.
Ecuadorian artist Oscar Medina created a striking mural of a giant bird holding both the sun and moon, symbolizing nature and universal balance. From South Africa, Keya Tama painted a lion framed by lush greenery, accompanied by Arabic script that reads, “Knowledge of people is a treasure.” Meanwhile, Peruvian artist Jurena Muñoz brought a dragon-like creature to life alongside the message: “You make the future possible.”
Moroccan artists are also leaving a strong mark. Mohamed Roshdi produced a portrait of a woman holding two fish, merging human and animal imagery. El Mostafa Amziline added bursts of color with oversized oranges and blossoms, while Russian artist Marat Morik paid homage to Moroccan heritage through motifs like carpets, traditional doors, and everyday figures.
According to artistic director Salaheddine Malouli, these large-scale murals have helped build a thriving street art community, reshaping public perceptions of the genre across Morocco. Since its inception, the festival has produced more than 100 murals throughout the capital, with this year’s edition running until April 27.
